I’m Margarete Sausmikat, the founder of ARTE FRESCA. Before opening my own online shop in 2004, I spent around ten years running a Laura Ashley store. Every day, I saw how much a fabric could change a home: how curtains could make a room feel welcoming, or a few new cushions could bring a much-loved sofa back to life.
More than 30 years into working with fabrics and interiors, that pleasure has never left me. I have a particular fondness for English, French and Scandinavian interiors — and for fabrics you can live with for years and still love.
Our outlet is a new home for these special finds.
Over time, even the loveliest collections leave behind a few remaining rolls, the last metres of a favourite design or smaller pieces of fabric. Some are enough for curtains; others are just right for a cushion, a table runner or a thoughtful handmade gift. I’ve always felt that these pieces deserve to be discovered and enjoyed.
Here, you’ll find them at lower prices because their collections have been discontinued or only limited quantities remain. They were chosen with the same eye for quality and beautiful design that has guided ARTE FRESCA since 2004.

Behind ARTE FRESCA is our small team, based at Schloss Friedewald, a historic castle in Germany’s Westerwald region. If you’re wondering whether a fabric will suit your project, or whether there’s enough left for what you have in mind, please ask us before ordering. We’re happy to help you work it out — and we’ll be honest if a piece isn’t right for the job.
Our outlet is still new, and we’re adding to it little by little. You may find something you’ve been searching for. Or a fabric may inspire an idea you hadn’t thought of yet.
